Heal Your Heart

How can one heal their heart on their own
While landing the blame and hate that’s been thrown?
How to stay still in the midst of the storm
of doubt that rains from the home you were born?
Hard to see sunshine and smile each day
While slander and coldness lies in your way.

But tough you must be, and strong you must act
For weakness will bring on a different attack
Of being rude, cold, mean, and hurtful in spite-
No matter your feelings, it’s those who are right.
Broken hearts are tallied on only one side-
The unaccountable, the ones blinded by pride
Those who spit venom and never look back
To see who’s left reeling behind their attack
You can’t have emotion or react in a way
to defend yourself…you have nothing to say!
They look instead at you for more reason
To cast you aside, accuse you of treason!

So all the while keep doing your best
To keep your composure and pass all the tests
Pray for the light that exposes the wrong
Don’t wait for apologies, you won’t hear that song
Instead lean on those whose closeness you’ve sown
For no one can heal their heart on their own.
